The MS Center at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center offers a multidisciplinary approach to care of the MS patient as well as their families and caregivers. The MS Center has highly experienced, specially trained physicians, nurses and an on-site social worker, as well as radiologists specially trained in MRI and MS. The Center enjoys an active collaboration with a number of urologists and a physiatrist (rehabilitation medicine specialist) with special expertise in MS.
Each patient undergoes a comprehensive neurological evaluation by an MS specialist, either Dr. Lathi or Dr. Katz. A personalized care plan is developed relating to the specific needs of that individual. Our two MS-certified clinical nurse coordinators coordinate each patient’s specialized plan of care. The nurses educate the patient and family on treatment issues, management of individual therapies, symptom management and offer highly personalized care and attention.
Patients are seen regularly at our large on-site Infusion Center for treatment with Tysabri, Cytoxan, Rituxen, intravenous steroids or other agents. We do our best to see every patient at every infusion.
Neuroradiologists specially trained in MS and MRI provide consultation and on-site imaging and interpretation is available weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
BLADDER CARE AND MANAGEMENT
We participate in numerous clinical trials related to treatment in MS. Recent trials have included the new oral agents, now approved for MS, as well as treatments under study and not yet available. Please visit our Clinical Trials page for information on specific trials.
COUNSELING AND SOCIAL SERVICE
A licensed social worker is available to offer information and referral, counseling, advocacy, psychoeducation and assistance with the disability process, home care and durable medical equipment.
