At SECAP, patients receive a multidisciplinary team approach for their substance abuse treatment. Our team is comprised of tenured professionals with many years of addiction experience and treatment, and includes licensed physicians, experienced nurses, psychologists, counselors, and social workers. Each member of this team offers a unique perspective and has a compassionate understanding of addiction.
Overseeing the SECAP team is medical director Barbara L. Herbert, MD. Dr. Herbert received her medical education at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, School of Medicine, performed her fellowships at Harvard University and Wellesley College, and received her residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Herbert specializes in emergency medicine and addiction medicine. Herbert is the founder of the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral Treatment (SBIRT) program at St. Elizabeth’s. She was named one of Boston Business Journal’s 2010 Champions in Healthcare.
SECAP executive director, Deirdre Houtmeyers, RN, CARN, has worked at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center since 1979. In 2007, she was recognized in Boston Business Journal’s Champions in Healthcare “Community Outreach” category for creating the Allston-Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force and leading initiatives to raise awareness and education of drug and alcohol abuse.
