Morton Hospital’s S1 Medical-Surgical Unit was recently selected as the recipient of the 2012 Beacon Hospice “Excellence in End-of-Life Care” Award. The hospital was nominated by Christal England, RN, BSN, Beacon Hospice Account Manager, and received the award for the fourth consecutive year after being selected from a pool of more than 100 nominations from 23 Beacon Hospice offices throughout New England.
The S1 staff is being recognized for its leadership in partnering with Beacon Hospice to guarantee access to hospice care for all patients at the end of life, as well as its commitment to continuing education.
According to England, Morton Hospital’s S1 staff was selected because of their ongoing commitment to quality care. “I have had the privilege of caring for many Morton Hospital patients, and the feedback from the families is always positive,” said England. “I nominated Morton Hospital and the S1 team because of the excellent care and compassion their entire staff provides.”
The S1 Unit is a medical-surgical unit that provides general medical and surgical care to adult and geriatric patient populations with a focus on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The unit is staffed by the S1 and Beacon Hospice teams and offers a dedicated hospice suite for patients requiring end-of-life care.
