Fall River, MA - First, it was an all-new emergency room, spacious new operating rooms, an eICU, a new medical office building, advanced robotic-arm technology for joint surgery, new information technologies, and other advances in facilities and technologies.
Now, “The New Health Care” at Saint Anne’s Hospital, Fall River, is taking on additional meaning in a big way.
With the opening of a new $30 million, 60,000-square-foot pavilion with all-private rooms this summer, Saint Anne’s will further transform the patient experience and underscore the hospital’s ongoing commitment to quality, safety and service.
Scheduled to open in August, the pavilion will include 40 new, spacious, all-private patient rooms (see right), with a host of amenities for patients and families.
Twenty rooms will be located on a dedicated telemetry unit for patients requiring cardiac monitoring, such as those recovering from heart attack or other illnesses or conditions that put them at risk for developing serious complications. This unit will feature a state-of-the-art telemetry monitoring system and echocardiography suite.
The second 20-bed medical-surgical unit will be used to care for patients hospitalized with a variety of conditions and illnesses.
By adding these rooms, Saint Anne’s Hospital will be able to convert most existing semi-private inpatient rooms to private rooms. This will ensure that nearly all patients and their families will enjoy the comfort and convenience of private rooms throughout the hospital campus.
“Our clinical data, quality and performance awards, and patient feedback tell us that our improvements have resulted in high-quality care,” says Craig Jesiolowski, Saint Anne’s president, “but we also know that, in addition to outstanding care, patients and their doctors really value private rooms.
"With these exciting changes throughout our hospital, we’re clearly communicating to our patients and our health care partners that we are fully committed to maximizing the entire patient experience.”
What “The New Health Care” means at Saint Anne’s
The new patient pavilion is the latest in a series of significant improvements to facilities, technologies, and systems that, between 2009 and 2013, have totaled more than $103 million.
Supported by Steward Health Care, these projects – along with the addition of dozens of new physicians and an intense focus on quality, safety and service that has resulted in numerous national awards – have transformed the way patients experience Saint Anne’s.
For patients and families
The new pavilion’s design incorporates the latest in comfort measures for patients and families and efficiencies for staff. For example, patients and families can enjoy:
Modern features for hospital staff
Design features, such as multiple nurse and staff work stations and built-in “clinician care zone” with computers in each room, will allow nurses and other care providers to document and retrieve clinical information immediately, increasing efficiency and minimizing corridor noise.
A design that is sensitive to the environment
Close attention has been paid to the building’s sustainable design, too, with features that reduce use of energy, water, and raw materials, and prevent damage to the environment. Some of these include:
“Several years ago, we promised that we would continue to bring world-class health care to our community,” says Jesiolowski. “We’re proud that we’re keeping that promise and are excited to share this latest chapter with our community.”
