Helping Members of the Steward Family Through Challenging Times

The Steward Health Care Foundation is dedicated to helping employees of Steward Health Care who are facing difficulty following a natural disaster and certain emergencies. The Foundation is an independent non-profit entity sponsored by Steward Health Care, the nation’s largest private, tax-paying health care system. The Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.
 
The idea for the Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation originated in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Imelda in 2019 and the flooding that devastated regions of southeast Texas. Since then our employees across the nation have endured additional natural disasters, including tornados and earthquakes, and our employees have always wanted to know how to best lend a hand to colleagues in need.

Mission Statement

The Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt charity, provides financial assistance to Steward Health Care employees who are experiencing a temporary financial hardship due to a qualifying natural disaster or emergency.

Vision Statement

The Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation seeks to provide financial assistance to employees of Steward Health Care in crisis related to natural disasters or emergencies while the employees continue to provide exceptional care to patients and their families while managing their own personal hardships.

Those we serve

Funds raised through the foundation will be used to aid employees who face a variety of needs. Through the generosity of the Foundation, we aim to help ease the burden employees may be facing, offering them hope for a brighter tomorrow.
 
The Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation is overseen by a board of directors, and a dedicated committee who are proud to work on this endeavor to improve the lives of Steward Health Care employees, help them maintain quality of life, and keep them strong in spirit.

Meet our Directors

Patrick Lombardo  is the Interim President of the Foundation. He is the Executive Vice President of Human Resources of Steward Health Care System. In this role, he oversees benefit administration, compensation, labor relations, employee relations, learning and development, and serves as part of the Executive Leadership Team. Mr. Lombardo has more than 25 years in health care senior leadership positions. Prior to joining Steward, he held human resource executive positions at IASIS Health Care and Community Health Systems, and at Health Management Associates. Mr. Lombardo received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in human resources and a master’s in counseling from the University of Scranton.

Robert Guyon is a semi-retired former executive with Steward Health Care with over 25 years of service with Steward and its predecessor organization Caritas Christi Health Care. Mr. Guyon served as a senior manager of Deloitte & Touche in Boston. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Mr. Guyon is also a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve.

James Karam is president and founder of First Bristol Corporation and a New England Real Estate Development and Management company, with extensive development and holdings throughout Southern New England. Mr. Karam’s current and past civic affiliations are extensive, including as former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the largest New England community health care system, Caritas Christi Health Care System, as a Trustee of the University of Massachusetts five (5) campus system including serving as Chairman for four years. He is also on the Board of Directors of Steward Health Care.

Sister Marie Puleo, MFIC, is a member of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception and is highly experienced in working with charitable missions. She has been part of the Steward Family since its founding and has served in various capacities including as the Sr. Vice President of Mission and as interim President of Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
